Kylie + Ben

Honestly, I don’t know how I go so lucky to hang with some of the raddest couples on the planet. I knew Kylie, Ben and I were supposed to work together from the get. Their energy was incredible and it literally made session not feel like a session at all. We were just all hanging out running, jumping and sitting in the weeds!

Darby + Taylor Engaged

You know what they say about the Midwest and weather. It’s unpredictable, we can have multiple seasons in one day. Most of my winter sessions look like fall sessions, but honestly I’m okay with that because who doesn’t love fall?

Enough about the weather though, let’s talk Darby and Taylor! I had the best time with the two of them during their engagement session. I guess this blog post would be really awkward if I didn’t ha! I really love engagement sessions because it gives myself and the couple a chance to interact, talk about the wedding but without the chaos or stress. I get to know them even further and vibe with their personalities. Darby and Taylor frolicked up the side of a hill for me, sat on wet grass and drank some beers. Basically they were freaking awesome and they say their friends are just as fun so be on the look out for that wedding preview in August! But for now, take a peek at their mega fun engagement session below!

Deadman’s Cove with the Baumgardners

Funny story, I rolled up right beside a car I thought held Kiyana and Dregan (yes, they have the coolest names) and yelled, not whispered, YELLED “Yall here to get some pics taken?!” Long story short it wasn’t them, that wasn’t their car and that was really awkward, but also really funny so here we are! I eventually located them and we hiked all over Deadman’s Cove. Going against the better judgement of the park ranger. We then headed up to the Cape Disappointment lighthouse where I about died from lack of oxygen, but we had the best views. Peep their engagement session below. In a later post I’ll tell their wedding story!

Adventuring with the Hickmans

I asked a question on Facebook the other day about how those who have been married or who might be planning a wedding might be breaking away from the traditional, breaking the rules on their day, making it totally them. The Hickman’s broke all the rules and made their day completely about them in the best ways.

They eloped in Washington state which made all of our dreams come true.  Cait and I flew in a few days prior to the day of the wedding and got to explore Olympic National Park and Cannon Beach with the two lovebirds. I don’t think I can actually write down and explain how special these few days were with them and their family. We’d shoot and then come back to their little cabins and have a bonfire on the beach with everyone. It was about family. About everyone being together, coming together and it was incredible to not only be their photographers for the day, but really feel apart of their family and witnesses to their love. Peep these magical moments we captured a few days prior to their day!

Kia + Jessie: Engaged

These two. I can’t get enough of them. I can honestly say it feels like the three of us have been friends forever and I’m so excited to be apart of documenting some of their monumental moments in their relationship so far.

It all started when I had the pleasure of photographing the two of them during Kia’s proposal to Jessie (in the dead of night only lit by candles testing all of my photography skills ha!). They then asked if I would do their engagement photos, but mentioned wanting something a little different. The best part of working with the two of them is they come at me with ideas, but still trust me enough to put my touch on it. I sent Kia a screen shot of one of the images of them laughing hysterically and she explained that that is them pretty much every time they are together.  I love their love and HAD to share it with you all! View it below.

Abby + Austin

It’s no secret that couples are my jam. I love spending an hour or two engulfed in the love they share. Being a fly on the wall, an awkward fly on the wall, while they share little laughs, loving looks at one another. It’s seriously my favorite. These two are just one example of why I love being that awkward fly. Abby ( pretty awesome name am I right?!) said this was their first time getting photos taken together. You’d never be able to tell. They were super comfortable, but then maybe that’s because they love each other so much and love each other out loud through the way they hug or whisper in one another’s ear. See for yourself, check out their dreamy session.

Abby has mad dance skills. Austin’s reaction is proof! ha!

Jocelyn + Josiah: Engaged

With every engagement session I come into it with the same goal, capture their love. Sometimes it is truly magical. Meet Jocelyn and Josiah. Every ounce of feels came out of them during their session and I couldn’t get enough. I’m almost positive I’m going to hire them to play their music at all of my upcoming engagement sessions, because when they played during their session it gave me goose bumps as I witnessed all of the emotions that oozed off of the two of them for one another. It was literally like all good things in the world collided as he played guitar and she, her ukulele with the sun setting in the background. We went well into the golden hour and almost chased the stars during their session, because how do you really stop such a good thing?

We spent hours on this hashtag so I thought it was only appropriate to make it their blog post title. Meet Fil and Jess. Jess and I went to rival high schools and were super competitive against each other in our high school sports glory days. But now, now we literally talk almost everyday and in a noncompetition way! Sometimes about wedding things, mostly not. I’ve learned that she’s really great at making March madness basketball brackets, their dog, Lombardi, could literally be a dog model, and Fil is practically a celebrity because he knows pro athletes.

The wedding is going down in Chicago and it’s going to be insane. I. Can’t. Wait. Check out their engagement session below!

Hello spring. And beautiful couple.

I posted a preview of this session on my Facebook page today and immediately got a message from one of my brides that said she would like to redo her engagement session. She promised it wasn’t because her images were bad, she loved hers, but because Sarah and Bj looked warm and were blessed with one of the most beautiful days we’ve had so far this year in Indiana. This was the complete opposite for said bride who messaged me (her blog post is next!)!

Three rules.

It’s true, I heart couples sessions. Like a lot. There’s just something about telling a love story between two people or better yet photographing the love between two people. Each session is different, as you can imagine, because each couple is different. My goal is to bring out as much emotion and feeling out of them and bring it to life through their images. To do so, I’ve started to live by three rules. These three rules are told to each couple before their session.

One, the groom to be/ boyfriend must have fun. It is crucial. Let’s face it ladies, in most cases you are stoked about getting your photo taken and they are just there because you told them to be there. They are there because it’s protocol and tradition to get engagement photos done. Maybe you forced him to be there because you want an image for a save the date and it would be rude to just have you on the magnet :). Or maybe, like in my case with my boyfriend, I forced him to get up for an early session because the only photo we had together was a selfie we took three years ago. The thing is, they feel uncomfortable getting their photos taken, let alone getting a photo of the two of you being all mushy and loveable because they are supposed to be macho. My goal is to make them see that posing and bringing out their inner GQ model can be really REALLY fun. And guys, a little tip, the more loveable you are to your lady and those little cute things you will do during the session will no doubt score you some major man of the year points.

The second rule, you are absolutely not allowed to do anything cute unless I have my camera up and ready to go. Pretty self-explanatory. Gush and love each other as much as possible. I encourage it, but don’t let me miss it while I’m walking ahead of you to the next location and don’t even think about turning off the cuteness when the camera is on the two of you!

The third and final rule, show me all of the love between the two of you. I want each couple to ooze happiness, laughter all of the good emotions. Make my mind blow with all the feels.

So you see, it’s simple. Just three rules. I live by them and put them to work each and every couples session!
