Mentor Sessions had me like…

“We live in such a selfish society. People believing that the world revolves around them or owes them something. That there’s not enough room at the table for everyone; therefore, her success diminishes my own. Yes, this experience was centered around photography, but it ended up being so much more than that. As we weaved the ins and outs of camera settings, location selection, posing, editing, and my technological inefficiencies I became very aware that I held a spot at Abbey’s table. And for that confidence boost, I am so incredibly grateful!”

-Ashley Leader, Mentee/Boss Babe

I recently rolled out the big news that I was going to start offering mentor sessions. I honestly sat on this idea for awhile, wondering why would anyone would want to learn from me? Second guessing my craft and deciding whether or not my knowledge was valuable for others. Then I thought, heck! At the very least I could pass along some confidence to others to really go for it, to start investing in them. Learn how to connect with their clients and pull out that emotional side of people that allows them to be vulnerable with you.  I learned so much when I interned, when I did hands on photography and wanted to give that opportunity to others who are wanting to better their craft and straight have a dang good time learning!

Ashley messaged me pretty much right away after I posted about these on social media and I couldn’t have had the most rad time with her. She was everything I hoped a mentee would be that would take on these sessions. We started off the day talking business, editing scenarios and then hopped on over to a live session. My personal favorite part! You guys, we had the best weather and two of my fave models to work with. The cool thing is, you don’t become a stranger after the day is over. Ashley and I have texted back and forth screen shots of our photos we took day of and she even popped in a few days later, during an editing day for me, just to see what I thought of some work she was working on. Not only will you walk away with some further confidence to do some magical work, but you’ll gain a community! Here’s some photos of mine taken during our session. I’m super stoked for future mentor sessions and to see Ashley’s images beautifully showcased in her portfolio!

Here’s to rad people and to sharing the love!

Monnett – Maternity

Morgan and I have known each other for awhile now, but she has semi recently joined AEP as my assistant and holy wowza I don’t know what I’d do without her. It all started when we had a brief conversation during one of her family sessions. She mentioned that she could totally be my assistant if I felt like I needed one. I didn’t know what I was missing in my life until she came in and showed me. You guys, I was a hot mess. I still am, but I’m a better hot mess version because of her ha!

I love her family so much. Lyla comes into the studio when Morgan works and she’s kind of become my little buddy. I’ve noticed her opening up to  me and I’ve gotten to know her sassy quirkiness throughout the few months they’ve been helping me out! She’s so dang smart y’all. Like I can’t deal with how smart she is. It’s going to be amazing to see her interact with her little brother.

Also, can I just shout out Brandon real quick? I know he gets to hear all of my ups and downs in this crazy owning my own business world when I’m corresponding with Morgan and he is such a trooper! He even talks things out and provides ideas when we are in a bind. I promise, okay I’ll try, not to text during dinner time and have Morgan break her own rules Brandon!

Peep their magical maternity/ family session below!

Charmion: boho

Y’all ain’t ready for this bohemian queen. Charmion contacted me with the idea of photographing her in an outfit she recently ordered. I’ll be honest, I was like mmkay yeah sure I’ll do it, but not really knowing what I got myself into. Then I met her. She’s beautiful and such an awesome person. Also the way she moves in front of the camera. Lord help me. See for yourself below.

Christy + Blake + Baby Bump

It’s funny how photography works. One summer will be filled with ALL of the family sessions, one summer will be filled with seniors the next something different! I was talking with a friend lately about how there must be something in the water because I’ve photographed ALL of the baby bumps lately. And they’ve been so beautiful.

Christy and Blake suggested water for their session and I loved the idea. Little did I know we would have THE perfect day for such a session. Christy was a trooper because this little hidden gem of a place is behind some baseball fields, which apparently were holding tournaments during our slotted session time. She made baring her bump with a possible crowd looking on look effortless and magical.

You both are going to be incredible parents and I’m so excited for you to bring life into this world!

sidenote: her Becky shirt is on point and I think everyone who is pregnant should have one!

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor

Get you a bride that is also an event planner (C. Taylor Events). Why? Because she will send you a shot list for her wedding and you wont have to touch it. She will make you an actual spread sheet. And laminate it. And you will want to thank her a million times over! Chelsea and Ethan were the dream team when it came to photographing a bride and groom. Their wedding was beautifully done and filled with those little moments that every photographer weeps over when editing. Check it out for yourself. Their love is goals.

Also, shoutout to the groomsmen with the solo dance? moves. haha!

Another Beeler Wedding!

Do you remember the proposal photos of Erik and Meagan? They recently tied the knot and I couldn’t have been more excited to play a role in documenting their love story from proposal to the big day! The Beeler’s are practically family, so spending a Saturday celebrating their marriage felt more like a fun family reunion than a job.

Their wedding was set at the beautiful Turner Barn in Plainfield Indiana and we couldn’t have asked for better weather and an all around perfect day. To the tiniest of details, bean field and silos I practically died during their first look and couples photos. Check out the festivities below!

Also, shout out to Cait for being magic when it comes to second shooting for me and getting in all the awkward moves. Pregnant and all!

Galloway Family

If you catch baby fever easily don’t read this post. Seriously. Because I’m about to show you some of the cutest sugars. Amanda and I didn’t meet prior to their session, but you know when you meet someone and it feels like you’ve known them forever? That’s exactly how I felt! They were warm and inviting the minute I showed up at their home. Then they took me to a magical place otherwise known as their family farm. The weather was perfect, they were perfect. This session gave me all of the feels and heart emojis. Check them out!

Mr. and Mrs. Welcher

To say I’ve been able to photograph some amazing brides and grooms this year would be an understatement. Here we have Jess and Adam. Adam told people I made the Forbes 30 under 30 list this year. I mean it’s not true, but maybe someday ha! Jess wore a flower crown and I wanted to die right there on the floor in their getting ready room. The entire day was relaxed and special and hot. It’s possible they brought the heat with their good looks and love for one another. See for yourself and don’t act like you won’t say good heavens when you see them

Jessi: Senior

Remember when I said I was going to blog this session a few months ago? It turns out October happened and with it came craziness and chaos. But I didn’t forget about Jessi, a 2015 high school senior! Everything about this session was perfect, minus my small incident on the old wooden bridge. I literally took a knee while falling through one of the old wooden boards, Jessi died laughing and I continued to take photos. I’m usually struggling for jokes to bring out real laughter, it turns out falling through (no not on, through) a bridge was just the trick I needed!

Enough about my bad luck, though. Jessi was my first senior involved in the guard. Yep, flags and rifles. How cool?! We went to the high school for inspiration and what we found was an amazing fence with THE most perfect lighting coming through. It’s the type of lighting we, photographers hope to chase every evening. See for yourself!

Madison, 2015 Southmont Senior

Madison didn’t ask for much, but brought a bouquet of sunflowers which, HELLO! Awesome! It’s not a typical senior prop which meant I loved it. We got to hang out by a lake for an evening and she displayed her bravery when she got in the water without hesitation for a few shots. I absolutely HAVE  to give a shout out to her mother for helping with posing. I wish I would have brought an assistant to photograph that! Below are some samples from the magical session!
